FEES & INSURANCE

If you are seeking therapy, you are taking an important step towards investing in your health and well-being

Fees

Participating in therapy is never meant to be a burden. That being said, therapy is not an inexpensive undertaking; it is a short-term investment in your health and well-being that can benefit you for the rest of your life.

My fee is based on industry standards and reflects the value of the work I do with my clients. To provide a point of reference, many Licensed Psychologists (Doctors of Psychology and Doctors of Philosophy) in Manhattan charge between $200–300 a session.

In general, I adjust my fee to fit each client based on their financial resources and unique life situation.

On a limited basis, I offer pro-bono fees on a sliding scale for those who cannot afford a full fee. I base my fee on what is reasonable, and other factors such as our shared availability, a client’s flexibility in scheduling, and current openings.

Insurance

I will happily complete any forms necessary if your insurance covers out-of-network providers.

Insurance vs. Self-Pay

The purpose of insurance is to cover treatments for an illness. What this means is that clients who wish to use their insurance must be identified as a patient, which typically involves assigning a diagnosis. I recommend that we have a discussion about what is most appropriate for you before submitting any claims.

Using Your Out-of-Network Benefits

Many insurance companies provide out-of-network reimbursement for mental health services. In addition to providing you with a monthly statement of services, I will gladly help you complete the necessary forms to submit to your insurance provider.

If you plan to use these benefits, I recommend that you contact your insurance company before our first appointment and ask the following:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible? Has it been met for the year?
  • Once I reach my out-of-network deductible, what percentage of the fee will my insurance cover?
  • Is there a session limit for a 45-minute session (code 90834) or a 60-minute session (code 90837)?
  • Do I need precertification to see an out-of-network provider?
