For me, every day is a mental health awareness day, but today is special. Today, this mission becomes your mission—our mission.
October 10th is World Mental Health Day, a day devoted to the global recognition of mental health education. Every October on this day, allies band together to push the dialogue on mental health forward. Having a baseline understanding of mental health makes us all better friends, lovers, partners, parents, and humans. This is a day to remind us that community goes beyond our social circles, our neighborhoods, our city and country. We are part of a global community with a shared responsibility to support one another. This means understanding how to offer a helping hand and loving support to those in need. 
In that spirit, I’m kicking off an educational series dedicated to expanding the conversation. Starting tomorrow, over a course of 10 days, I’ll be share one idea related to mental health + wellness. 
What can you do? All that I ask is that if you feel compelled, add to the dialogue, comment, share, find your unique way to contribute to the betterment of those around you. One person can have a tremendous ripple-effect, and if we all do our part to educate ourselves and our loved ones, we can end the stigma surrounding mental health. Life is meant to be affirming and joyful. Yet, so Life is meant to be affirming and joyful. Yet, so many New Yorkers - myself included – exhaust and lose themselves in the excitement and hustle. 
Ever since being in private practice full-time and trying to expand a little each week, I have had to struggle with burning out and confronting my own limitations. I also witness this every week with many of my clients and friends. Fortunately, if you slow down long enough and remember the purpose of any endeavor, you remember the importance of reconnecting with the joy in your work and in your life. In fact, some of my most favorite moments with clients and friends are when we pause and find the humor in how absurd and funny life can truly be - laughing at our follies or ridiculous moments where we “missed the mark” and acted out, and finding the joy in our relationships. 
@brenebrown has provided a wonderful service by emphasizing the importance of cultivating rest and play, and letting go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth. Here are some take aways: 
In order for you to sustain a long life and career, we have to be attuned to our bodies and acknowledge some limitations.
While it is hard to sit still and recharge when there are things we know we “should” be doing, we have to remind ourselves that we need rest in order to rejuvenate so that we can keep pushing forward.
We can acknowledge that rest and play allow us to recharge the creative and innovative parts of the brain, foster joy, and as essential to our overall health.
Being playful in our relationships will enhance the connection between people and will bring you closer. 
So please take a moment today and remember that rest and play do not make you lazy, weak, or unproductive. Quite the opposite – it means that you value your health, you want to stay engaged, and live more in the present and enjoy your life for the wonderful gift that it is.

By choosing to take responsibility for every thought, every feeling, and everything that happens to you, big or small. Once you do this, you will no longer feel the need to blame, to criticize and to complain… you will no longer choose to feel disempowered. 
Today, remember that It is our willingness and conviction that allows us to change our lives. An immense power is available to you when you remember who you are. Today, look in the mirror and reclaim the power to transform your life. ➖
